Floyd Mayweather: The thug with two jets, 100 cars and $250,000 in a duffel bag he'll blow at a strip club if he wins tonight's big fight

Tucked away in a corner of Floyd Mayweather’s changing room at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas is a space reserved for a black Nike duffel bag that remains with him at all times.

Floyd Mayweather (above) — thanks to stratospheric talent and a knack for self-promotion — has succeeded in becoming the world’s highest-earning sportsman, according to Forbes magazine

Safeguarded by a member of the 38-year-old boxer’s extensive entourage, and weighing in at around a stone, it’s used to transport the ‘bricks’ of cash that he likes to plough through during the course of a typical day.

Staff call it the ‘pregnant duffel’, for a simple reason: it’s always bulging with money.

Tonight, in advance of Mayweather’s long-awaited showdown with Manny Pacquiao, that bag’s contents will include five shrink-wrapped bundles of $100 bills, each bundle worth some $50,000 — the equivalent of roughly £31,250.

This not-so-petty cash has been set aside to finance the first couple of hours of what the famously brash fighter, who is undefeated in 47 professional bouts, confidently expects to be a raucous victory celebration.

Festivities will commence shortly after tonight’s fight has finished, at one of Sin City’s many strip clubs.

Mayweather, wearing one of his collection of gold and diamond watches, and dripping with jewellery, will — he hopes — arrive in one of the hundred supercars he has purchased from a single dealership since moving to Las Vegas 18 years ago. (Only last week, he boasted of having just spent $450,000 on a bespoke Mercedes, and a six-figure sum on a gold-plated golf buggy as a birthday present for one of his infant sons).

Once inside the strip club, where he’s expected to be joined by such friends as singers Justin Bieber (who will carry his championship belt into the ring before the fight) and Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z, he will doubtless perform another favourite trick: throwing bundles of banknotes into the air above the venue’s stage, in order to ‘make it rain’.

The atmosphere, an insider was quoted saying, will be ‘wall-to-wall money and strippers’. Local lap-dancers are expecting their biggest payday since 2008, when Mayweather and a hip-hop artist called T.I. flew hundreds of their peers to town for a ‘strip off’ competition, with a $100,000 first prize.

So it goes in the strange, vulgar world of an athlete who — thanks to stratospheric talent, and a knack for self-promotion — has succeeded in becoming the world’s highest-earning sportsman, according to Forbes magazine, with an estimated $400 million fortune and earnings that last year topped $105 million.

Mayweather (left) will take on Manny Pacquiao (right) in tonight's long-awaited showdown

Tonight, win or lose, he will in roughly 45 minutes of action add around $200 million to that pot, taking 60 per cent of the $300 million purse. His opponent Pacquiao, who was also born into abject poverty, and has lost just five of his 64 professional fights, will bank the remainder.

The gargantuan purse makes this the single most lucrative fight in history (little wonder that Mayweather revels in the nickname ‘money’). And its commercial appeal lies squarely in the way that both men have, in very different ways, achieved a sort of celebrity that transcends sport.

Mayweather’s take on fame is perhaps best summed up in a self-portrait he uploaded to his Twitter feed in early January.

Shot on an airport runway, it showed the boxer standing casually on the tarmac, next to his private jet and no fewer than seven of his supercars, worth a cool $15 million. ‘Welcome to my world,’ read the caption.

The boxer — raised in a Michigan slum by Floyd Snr, a former boxer turned drug dealer — has, when he’s not fighting, devoted recent years almost entirely to conspicuous consumption, much of it shared on social media, or recorded by TV cameras.

"This is the American dream - who doesn't want to be rich?"

Floyd Mayweather said...

He has an entourage, a harem of lady friends, and an appetite for luxury that might have made Marie Antoinette blush. Dividing his time between a vast home called ‘Bad Boy Mansion’ in Las Vegas and a compound in Miami, he shuttles between the two in not one, but two private jets, each worth around $40 million.

One is a Gulfstream V that he and his family use; the other, a Gulfstream 4 for his entourage, whom he calls The Money Team and includes, on the payroll, several bodyguards, two full-time masseurs, an attendant employed to carry his hand-sanitiser (he has a phobia of germs), and a personal barber.

This last employee may not have the most arduous of jobs: for several years, Mayweather’s head has always been clean-shaven.

On the clothing front, the boxer is famed for wearing his designer underpants only once, after which each pair is binned. It’s a similar story for his shoes, including $3,000 pairs of red-soled Christian Louboutin trainers. He sometimes leaves suitcases full of them behind in hotel rooms as tips for the maid.

Buying jewellery is another costly hobby. He once spent $6 million on gold and diamond accessories in a single store in New York. Twice last year, he spent six-figure sums on new watches for his 14-year-old daughter, Lyanna. She share pictures of them on Twitter, noting: ‘Time is money so my Daddy went and bought me a Rolex.’

Mayweather’s take on fame is perhaps best summed up in a self-portrait he uploaded to his Twitter feed in early January, which showed off his eight supercars

During another million-dollar shopping trip, in 2013, Mayweather was accompanied by a journalist who asked about his shopping habit. In response, the fighter removed a bank statement from his pocket.

It showed how much cash he had sitting in a current account, earning almost no interest: a cool $123 million. ‘One account, baby!’ he said.

Some of that money is spent at the gaming tables. In Las Vegas, he plays blackjack for $100,000 a hand, and recently tweeted a picture of a betting slip showing that he’d bet $1.4 million on the outcome of a single American Football game.

‘The last time I checked, this is what the American dream is,’ he said. ‘Who doesn’t want to be rich and make this kind of money?’

He may have a point, but that doesn’t exactly make Floyd Mayweather a role model. Indeed, for most of the past 15 years, a dark cloud has hung over his reputation due to a series of seven arrests or citations for domestic abuse.

Five different women have complained of assault at his hands, including Melissa Brim, a fiancee who claimed in 2002 that he had hit her with a car door and punched her in the face and neck, for which he received a suspended sentence.

In 2011, he was sentenced to 90 days in prison for assaulting Josie Harris, the mother of three of Mayweather’s four children. He got into her home, as she slept, pulled her out of bed by the hair, punched, kicked and threatened to kill her.

And as recently as last year, his ex-fiancee Shantel Jackson filed a lawsuit claiming he had during an argument ‘bent her arm, restrained her, and pointed a gun at her foot asking “which toe do you want me to shoot first?”’

Fans of Filipino boxer Pacquiao hold signs prior to the weigh-in. Festivities will commence shortly after tonight’s fight has finished at one of Sin City’s many strip clubs

Shamelessly, Mayweather has leveraged the richly deserved ‘bad boy’ reputation to his advantage, giving a string of interviews in which he expressed no remorse for the abuse of women, and at times adopting the persona of a pantomime villain.

The move might be distasteful. But it’s also highly lucrative. Indeed, many of the TV viewers stumping up to watch tonight’s fight will be doing so in the hope of witnessing the cocksure bad boy of boxing get his comeuppance.

Tonight, win or lose, he'll make $200million in 45 minutes

To this end, his opponent couldn’t be more perfect: Manny Pacquiao is a national hero in his native Philippines, with a rags-to-riches story that makes Mayweather’s pale by comparison. Yet he is also impeccably polite, and unfailingly modest.

Born in a slum, to a penniless single mother, he began fighting in the back streets of Manila as a homeless 14-year-old, for a dollar a time, before he was spotted by a local gym.

International success made him the nation’s greatest celebrity, with two platinum music albums, a TV sitcom (Show Me De Manny) and his own TV gameshow (Manny Many Prizes). His birthday is a national holiday, he has twice been elected a senator, and is so popular that a truce is called in the civil war in the south of the country whenever he fights.

He’s also a committed Roman Catholic who gives much of his earnings to charity, and keeps a Bible at hand, highlighting favourite passages with a pink highlighter.

Though Mayweather remains the bookies’ favourite to win, the match-up is duly irresistible to the public, according to Frank Warren, the doyen of British boxing promoters.

‘You have a classic bad-guy-versus-good-guy fight in which millions of people, people who don’t even watch boxing, want to see the bad guy lose,’ he tells me. ‘That helps make this the biggest fight I think we’ve seen this century.’

And the most vulgar, too

Police unveil fleeing kidnappers of Orekoya kids

Faces of the fleeing members of a kidnap gang that connived with an evil nanny, Funmilayo Adeyemi to abduct three Orekoya kids and others in Lagos have been unveiled. They are two brothers identified as Rasheed and Hakeem Kareem.

The nanny, who abducted three children from the Orekoya family home in Surulere area of Lagos on April 10 within 24 hours after she was employed as a housemaid, claimed that she was pushed into the act by her husband, Rasheed Kareem.

Funmilayo Adeyemi, the arrested notorious nanny, who confessed to be the mastermind of the kidnap of the Orekoya and the Esharegaran kids in Lagos, was arrested on Wednesday last week.

The mother of four and aged 35, Funmilayo was declared wanted by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos police command, Ikeja when the news of the kidnap of the Orekoya three kids by their nanny hit the media. The story was that Funmilayo who claimed that her name was Mary Akinloye was recruited through a popular online platform. She disappeared with the kids on April 10, barely 24 hours after she resumed work at the Orekoya family residence in Surulere.

The kidnap syndicate initially demanded N15 million from the Orekoyas, a ransom that was later negotiated to N13 million out of which N2 million was paid into a given bank account to bait the suspects. The children identified as Demola, 6, Adedamola, 4, and Aderomola, 11months were later dumped naked in an uncompleted building after nine days in their abductors’ custody.

She also admitted that her gang arranged the December 2014 kidnap of two kids, Raphael and Michael Esharegaran in Magodo area of the state. She equally confessed that her husband, Rasheed Kareem, brother in-law, Hakeem Kareem and their mother, who are still at large, are members of the kidnap syndicate, which she called ‘family business.’

According to the nanny, the family runs a kidnapping business, adding that her husband is the head of the gang. Saturday Sun learnt that the suspects, who in their early 30s, are known in their area as rich boys because of the exotic cars and choice apartment they live in. As soon as neighbours start questioning the source of their wealth, they will relocate.

She had said that the others (husband and brother-in-law) run the business side of the kidnapping and had collected N2m for the Magodo kidnap, which occurred December last year. The children were later found in Sagamu,

Funmilayo was arrested in the Shasha area of Lagos by operatives of Special Anti- Robbery Squad, Ikeja command after she was tracked down through the phone numbers and bank accounts submitted by the kidnappers.

Speaking on the progress made to arrest the fleeing brothers, the state police spokesman, Kenneth Nwosu said that the police would stop at nothing until all the suspects are brought to face the wrath of the law.

The 54-year-old comedian and actress Paige, 35, were spotted holding hands as they continued their daily ritual of purchasing caffeine-laden beverages in Beverly Hills, California, on Thursday.

Blonde beauty Paige rocked a casual yet sexy look, donning a plunging grey V-neck top with cuffed jeans and white trainers, while she accessorized with a delicate pendant and tinted sunglasses.

Miley Cyrus bleaches her ARMPIT hair and dyes it shocking pink... and proudly reveals the result on Instagram... Kolo babe!

It's not unusual after a break-up to throw a pity party or go for a change of hair-style or colour.

But, as usual, singer Miley Cyrus takes it up a level - by throwing an arm-pit party and dying her underarm hair bright pink!

The 22-year-old singer - who has recently split from Patrick Schwarzenegger, took to her Instagram page on Friday to show off her inexplicably cerise-hued hairy pits.

It's the pits! Miley Cyrus showed off her bright pink underarm hair in an Instagram shot on Friday

Cheers to me: The star toasted her new look with a beer

She's seen clutching a bottled beer and wearing a white tank top in the shot, which she captioned, 'It's Friday and I have pink pits'.

On Thursday she showed a snap of her getting her armpits coloured with close pal Justin Anderson.

Stripped down to a blue crop top and tight black gym shorts, the superstar happily paraded her toned frame as she puffed on a cigarette while posing for a selfie.

Pit crew: Miley put some time aside from her busy schedule to share some pictures on social media, giving fans a glimpse of her off-stage antics

‘Pit party wiff @anderssonjj,’ she simply captioned one image, before adding another with the words, ‘Don't eat the bleach baby’

Her hunky pal said on his page: ‘wtf are me and @mileycyrus up to.’

Earlier in the week, the 22-year-old singer appeared to be immortalizing her fondness for smoking weed in Paper magazine.

Good times: The 22-year-old posted an Instagram photo on Thursday baring her armpits and smoking with a male pal

Funny antics: The pop star shared another with her tongue sticking out and captioned it, 'Don't eat the bleach baby'

Wild thing: The singer happily paraded her toned frame as she stripped down to a blue crop top and tight black gym shorts

The ex-girlfriend of Patrick Schwarzenegger shared a new behind-the-scenes Instagram photo from the set of her magazine photo shoot wearing nothing but a white robe and a large lighted joint in her mouth.

The Wrecking Ball star has a history with smoking - although what she seems to be posing with in her new clips is a large cigar, she joked about it being something of the weed variety.

Back in 2013 at the MTV European Music Awards, the headline-grabbing star caused a stir when she appeared to light up a suspicious-looking cigarette on stage in front of the audience and world watching at home.

'Behind the scenes with @papermagazine creative directed by @twinkleswinkle BTS Polaroid by @cheythom,' the We Can't Stop hitmaker captioned her picture.

The same week, Miley shared several snaps of herself puffing on what appeared to be a joint for her Instagram page.

Most recently for 4/20 - the unofficial holiday of smoking weed - Miley celebrated with a whopping 15 marijuana related selfies and altered images of herself.

Marijuana Miley: It's no secret that the 22-year-old singer has reefer fever as seen on her social media accounts (posted on April 20)

Shortly following the EMAs, Miley explained the incident saying that she didn't do it to give rise to the media but because she doesn't 'give a f**k.

'I was just walking out of my room and then I was like "Oh I have [this joint] in my bag, that will be really funny,"' she explained during a radio interview with UK's Capital FM in November.

'And I didn't say anything to anybody. It's not that I think about that, and I don't tell anyone I'm gonna do it because then they're going to tell me no.'

'Thazzzz a BIG joint': The Can't Be Tamed hitmaker shared this selfie on April 23

Adding: 'I just did it mostly because I knew the fans in Amsterdam would love it and they started going crazy when I did it.'

Miley first caught the media's attention in December 2010 when footage of her smoking the psychedelic herb salvia infamously leaked online.

'I'm not perfect,' she told Marie Claire about her use of the drug, which is legal in California.

Hippie star: Miley was pictured on Thursday sporting heart-shaped sunglasses and a yin/yang bikini top in Los Angeles

Beyoncé and Jay Z don matching denim and T-shirt ensembles as they make a discreet exit from restaurant following romantic meal

After celebrating seven years of marriage on April 4, Beyoncé and Jay Z are showing that they're in sync on a number of matters - including their wardrobes.

The musical power couple were spotted enjoying a romantic meal in Los Angeles earlier this week, and they stepped out in similarly casual style, wearing T-shirts and distressed jeans.

As she exited the eatery through a rear exit, Beyoncé, 33, flashed a considerable amount of leg in her ripped jeans, which she teamed with a black printed T-shirt and black Converse shoes.

Crouching diva... Beyoncé was seen making a discreet exit from a Los Angeles restaurant following a romantic meal with her husband, Jay-Z, in Los Angeles earlier this week

With her honey blonde tresses plaited and sitting under a black beanie, she hid her eyes behind a pair of sunglasses as she made a quick dash for her waiting chauffeur-driven SUV.

Following closely behind was her rapper and entrepreneur husband, who sported a grey V-neck T-shirt with light blue faded jeans and white Nike hi-tops.

While the 45-year-old rocked a more simple look than his wife, he was seen with one particularly eye-catching accessory - his golden Apple Watch edition, which retails at an eye-watering $17,000.

The couple, parents to three-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, are still basking in the after-glow of Beyoncé's mother Tina's wedding, which took place in Newport Beach, California, last month.

Beyoncé shared a series of shots - which showed guests wearing all-white ensembles - of the nuptials, in which Tina exchanged vows with actor Richard Lawson aboard a luxury yacht.

Their daughter Blue was shown wearing her hair in two small buns behind a small, jewel-encrusted tiara as she donned a sleeveless white dress featuring a sheer skirt and white leather flat shoes.

Happy birthday, Golden Balls! As David Beckham turns 40

It is a milestone that all too often prompts dread, apprehension and deep reflection, as David Beckham ushers in his 40th birthday with close friends and family members he could be forgiven for feeling an overwhelming sense of pride in a life and career peppered with incredible highs, occasional lows and intermittent flashes of brilliance.

The former footballer will bid farewell to his thirties in lavish style at the five-star Amanjena resort in Marrakesh, Morocco - where he will be joined by friends including James Corden, Gordon Ramsay and life-long pal Dave Gardner - but the opulent backdrop is a far cry from comparatively humble beginnings in suburban Leytonstone, east London.

Born at Whipps Cross University Hospital on May 2 1975, his passion for the beautiful game and unbridled love for Manchester United would be nurtured from an early age by parents Ted, a kitchen fitter, and hairdresser mother Sandra; both avid fans of the team, the couple would frequently travel the 200 miles from their home to watch them play at Old Trafford.

Happy birthday Goldenballs! David Beckham celebrates his 40th birthday with 60 close friends and family members in Marrakesh on May 2

But while his parents observed from the terraces, young Beckham was honing his skills as a footballer on the field at local Larkswood Park, in the playground at Chase Lane Primary School and eventually for his school team at Chingford County High.

Recalling his early passion and subsequent desire to develop a career as a sportsman, Beckham told W magazine in 2007: 'At school whenever the teachers asked, "What do you want to do when you’re older?" I’d say, "I want to be a footballer." And they’d say, "No, what do you really want to do, for a job?" But that was the only thing I ever wanted to do.'

Acutely aware of his talent with the ball, father Ted actively encouraged David, then aged eight, to play by coaching him in Chingford based youth team Ridgeway Rovers, a grass roots London club whose more recent finds include England internationals Andros Townsend and Harry Kane.

Raring to go: Beckham's passion for football was instilled in him at an early age by parents Ted and Sandra, both devoted Manchester United fans

The future's bright: The future England captain, pictured at Chase Lane School in 1984, knew from an early age that he wanted to be a footballer

It would be the future footballing legend's first taste of club football, and he would excel - scoring an impressive 100 goals in his first three seasons with the team.

'It's something only a dad can describe - having a boy. And then when he gets older and he takes an interest in football - well, that's what every dad dreams about, isn't it?' Ted told The Times newspaper in 2005.

'David had talent, but he needed someone to bring it out and I was the cog that started him off. Any dad would have done the same.'

'It's getting exhausting': Kim Kardashian on sex with Kanye West... as rapper admits trying for baby number 2 isn't as much fun

She has made it no secret that she and husband Kanye West are trying to conceive another child.

And it certainly seems to be a labour of love for Kim Kardashian as she recently revealed how draining the process has been.

The 34-year-old actress opened up to E! News about the tiresome venture while backstage at a taping of the Jimmy Kimmel Show on Thursday evening.

Scroll down for video

Revealing: Kim Kardashian opened up about trying to conceive a second child while backstage for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, as she was pictured arriving at the Hollywood studio on Thursday

She told Catt Sadler: 'We are trying. We try every single day. You can't try harder than we try.'

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star also revealed that her 37-year-old rapper husband has not been too happy about the struggles they have encountered in trying to conceive.

Kim said: 'It's getting exhausting. He always says, "Trying for baby No. 2 isn't as fun as trying to baby No. 1."'

She went on to discuss the difficulties they faced when giving birth to their now 20-month-old daughter, North, as she said: 'I did go through a lot with the delivery and so we faced a couple challenges.

'It's getting exhausting': The 34-year-old said the process with husband Kanye West has been tiresome in in trying to conceive a younger sibling for 20-month-old North, as the family are pictured together on their Armenian vacation on April 9

'But we're literally trying everything that we can to make it happen, so I'm to the point now where it's not as stressful to me. And maybe that's when they say it happens.'

Though they would like to have the child on their own, Kim revealed at that she may be open to a surrogate as she elaborated: 'I think if it came to that point, but we've trying for over a year and I would maybe wait a couple of years until that point happened.'

As the couple are coming up on their one-year anniversary, it seems to be nothing but wedded bliss for the couple as she said: 'You just learn all the little things about each other.

'We love to work out together. We love to have the TV on and I'm cooking and we're playing with our daughter. You know we have this routine…[we] love being together. And so I think you learn something about each other every single day when you're living together.'

Back in black: She made a grand arrival for the chat show appearance in an entirely black outfit

Showing off: She donned a black jacket over a plunging matching top attached to a sheer skirt which revealed her legs and undergarments

She continued to gush about her relationship with the Stronger hitmaker: 'They say that the first year and everything in marriage is the hardest, and I'm like, "If this is the hardest, then life is going to be really good—because it's just not hard."'

Kim also discussed more of a low-key affair to celebrate their anniversary which will be a stark contrast to their beautiful, high-profile Italian ceremony in May 24 of last year: 'You know we were supposed to go to Africa. One of our good friends got us a safari for our wedding gift and I think we're just going to stay home and chill out.

'May is a really busy month for us, so I think we just want to hang out and relax,'

However a quiet event simply may not be in the cards as there is always a possibility of Kanye going the extra mile for his ladylove as Kim said: 'Unless he has something planned—he always has something up his sleeve and he always has something planned, so I don't know, but I don't put it past him to do something really special.'

The latest study involved action video games (which the study refers to as AVGs) and researched the cognitive function of both experts and amateurs of the genre. Action games have a pretty huge scope, but boil down to any games that require quick thinking and fast reflexes. You need to know where your fingers are at all times. You need to have a feel for every button. You need to be as fluid and adaptive as a river. Only then can you be deemed a master.
What sets the study apart is that they did not simply test the cognitive ability of the respective groups, as previous studies have done, they instead performed MRI scans of the test subjects. The tests focused on a region of the brain known as the insular cortex, which is responsible for motor control, perception, and cognitive functioning.
You can see the results of the test below, which indicated greater functional connectivity in the brains of expert players as opposed to the amateurs. The image showcases the two hemispheres (left and right) of the brain and the connections found therein. The bold, white lines indicate where experts had superior connectivity.

The left side of the brain showed the most significant improvement, which makes sense as it is most commonly associated with logic, decision-making ability, and calculations. All of which are key traits required for effective performance in any given action game. Coincidence? I think not, and these researchers seem to agree with me.
Another interesting find was that expert games had more grey matter in their brains, which is used for processing information. Therefore, more grey matter means better data processing. See? My maths has already improved.
If you were on the hunt for yet another great excuse to play more video games, then here you have it, fellow adventurers. Naturally, improved neural performance can be achieved by playing just about any game that requires reasoning or quick thinking, which is not necessarily only found in action games.
On the other hand, don't go drop out of school with the false hopes that playing video games will do you just as good. There is a pretty huge difference between improving neural function and gaining knowledge. Read a book once in a while.
If you want to see what I mean, go play just about any online game. I bet you won't find too many bright sparks hanging around there.
So, what are you waiting for? Go play some games, you clever people.

Freddie Gray Investigation: Six Cops Charged in His Death

Baltimore's state's attorney announced Friday that charges will be filed against six officers in the death of Freddie Gray, the man who suffered a spinal injury while in police custody and died a week later.
"I assured his family that no one is above the law and that I would pursue justice on their behalf," Marilyn Mosby said in a press conference on Friday.
The charges against the officers include second-degree murder, manslaughter, assault and misconduct in office, among others. Only one officer faces a second-degree murder charge, the most serious count.
Mosby's announcement that Gray's death was ruled a homicide was met with cheers from Baltimore residents. The city has been the scene of protests and riots demanding justice for the 25-year-old.
Gray was arrested April 12 and died on April 19 from his injuries. His death has prompted calls for police reform nationwide.
Mosby detailed Gray's arrest on Friday, describing how during his ride from the scene of his arrest to the booking site, he repeatedly requested medical attention. The officers failed to get him any help, she said.
"A medic was finally called to the scene, where the medic determined that Mr. Gray was in cardiac arrest," she said.
Baltimore's police commissioner said Thursday that his department had handed over confidential information on how Gray died to prosecutors. Meanwhile, the Justice Department is also working on its own independent investigation.
Mosby said in Friday's news conference that her office had been investigating Gray's death independently of police's investigation.
"We knew that this was a serious case," she said. "From day one, we investigated. We're not just relying solely on what we were given by the police department."

Samsung Confirms Galaxy S6 Has Serious Memory Problem

The Galaxy S6 may be a bad Galaxy S5 successor, but it is a brilliant phone in its own right. For my money it is Samsung playing Apple at its own game and coming out on top. Yet not all is well and, following a barrage of complaints from users, Samsung has now admitted the Galaxy S6 has a serious memory problem…
Perhaps unsurprisingly Samsung chose to make the admission in as low profile a manner as possible. The company took to its Samsung UK Facebook page to confirm that both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have memory mismanagement problems which cause them to slow and apps to forcefully close.
The root of the problem: how RAM is consumed and freed up.

What should happen is RAM used by apps and services is released when those apps and services are not in use. Instead it is not being released which means each new app or service has to eat into additional memory until there is no more available, at which point the slowdowns and crashes begin.
The only half solutions at present are a) to hit the ‘Close All’ button in the multitasking card menu to dismiss all apps to try and claw some memory back, or b) to reboot the device. Interestingly the latter is expected to have helped keep the issue under the radar in reviews as performance testing is always done from a fresh boot.
All Google’s Fault?
While fingers are being waved at Samsung, the root of the problem is likely to be Google. The company admitted to a severe memory leak problem in Android 5.0 Lollipop which it has so far failed to stamp out in 5.0.1, 5.0.2 and 5.1. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge currently run Android 5.0.2.
The latest hope is the impending Android 5.1.1 which lists “RAM management improved” in its official changelog. As such it is no surprise that Samsung has already leapt on the 5.1.1 update and released it to some users even faster than Google has managed to get it to Nexus owners.

Thankfully Samsung also has another fix up its sleeve…

Fix Incoming
But thankfully waiting on Android 5.1.1 may not be the only solution. Speaking on its aforementioned Facebook page Samsung states:
“Micro-updates are in the process of being rolled out to correct issues relating to device performance and stability… Keep checking for these on your device via Settings>About device>Software update>Update now”

Given Android 5.1.1 is two versions ahead of Android 5.0.2 on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, it doesn’t sound as if that is the ‘micro-updates’ which Samsung describes. In fact it may be a patch Samsung developed in-house.
One way or another we’ll know shortly and given all the praise rightfully heaped on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge so far, hopefully this will prove little more than a road bump in its long running battle with Apple and the iPhone…

Those running to APC will return with “empty stomachs” – Jonathan

Goodluck_jonathan3

Those defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressive Congress due to PDP’s loss at the presidential election, will return with “empty stomachs”, President Goodluck Jonathan said Thursday.
The president said the PDP was still the dominant party and it was only a matter of time before it bounced back. He said the APC will first satisfy the hunger of its own members who worked during the elections before attending to defectors.
Mr. Jonathan made the remarks while receiving the PDP campaign report from the Presidential Campaign Organisation (PCO) at the presidential villa. He urged the party and its members to sit tight and put its failures behind and help the party move forward.
“So I encourage members of our party to remain loyal to the party, not to be so disillusioned ‎because we lost presidential election and decide to go where they think they will fill their stomachs or something. It’s not easy. I have been here for five years plus, you hardly satisfy even 15 percent of those who work for you.
“So those people running and those already cross-carpeting, they will come back on an empty stomach because they will touch the primary members of their party, before they get to you. They know you are coming because you are hungry, before it will get to you the food will be gone.
“So let us be committed to the party, yes we will have challenges at the beginning but surely we will get to where we want to be,” he said.
The president urged PDP members not to judge the party by the result of the presidential elections, saying it was time to go back to the drawing board and identify areas of challenges ‎so that the party will become stronger.
“PDP is still the most organized party, it is still the party that is not owned by anybody, it’s still the party that whatever you are you can get to any level with your competences and so on,” he said.
On his decision to concede defeat the President said he did not consult anyone before making the phone call to the winner in the race, President-elect Muhammadu Buhari.
“Yes I did not consult anybody before I made that phone call but I made that phone call on behalf of all you and on behalf of the PDP.
“I made the pronouncement but some of us are paying the price. Some people pay more price than I do, I know how some of you are already being persecuted and the kind of situation facing you.
“The key thing is that we must continue to unite, as a party we must continue to work hard so that as we go into subsequent elections 2019, 2023 and so on and so forth, PDP will continue to come up strong. Even in the interest of the nation, we need PDP.
“I still believe though we have lost presidential elections, some national assembly elections, governorship elections especially in the north, PDP is still the dominant party. Let us not judge PDP by the result of the elections for the presidential elections”.
He likened the 2015 elections to the civil war which had different accounts written by different people.
“‎Of course the issues of this 2015 elections will be similar to the civil war because different people gave different account of the civil war. The first book on civil war that I read was “My Command” by Olusegun Obasanjo, which is his perspectives on what he saw and observed. I recall Ojukwu’s own was “Because I’m Involved”, if you read it the dimensions are sometimes tangential to the first.
“If you ask the various observer groups, each will give you a different perspective. Even among ourselves whenever we talk ‎sometimes I laugh when people draw some of their analysis but by my privileged position I knew a little more about elections than others,” he said.
The President noted that the key thing isn’t whether the elections were lost or won but that Nigeria as a nation must move forward. “Political parties can only thrive when there is peace and stability in the country. If there is military intervention all the parties will disappear,” he said.
‎He thanked all who worked for the elections.
Mr. Jonathan said countries that sent vessels in case of an urgent need to evacuate their nationals from Nigeria, were disappointed because there was nobody to evacuate.
“The country was so tense but everything has gone down and I think that is the most important thing because the conviction is that you must have a country before you can run for an office. Nigeria is a very complex country and you must manage with care.
“So let me thank you all for joining us to carry the cross, thank you for the various roles you played and I charge you to‎ be even more committed to the development of the party. Definitely PDP will become stronger and united,” he added.
The Director-General of the PCO, Ahmadu Ali‎, commended the President for showing great, exemplary leadership and making the PDP proud despite losing to the rival All Progressives Congress (APC).
“You made the world proud by conceding defeat even when you had several options. You proved to the world that you are committed to your credo that no one’s blood is worth your political ambition.
“By that singular act, you pulled Nigeria back from a seeming pre-determined precipice and you made us proud. While you assuredly lost in the ballots, you won the biggest victory in defeat by that historic phone call.

Mr. Ali said lessons learnt from the elections will be used to wrest power from the current winners in future.
