Former Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Amokachi has been appointed Head Coach of Finnish second division club JS Hercules. This was confirmed on the club's official website on Wednesday.
A statement from the club reads: "Oulu-based football club Hercules has signed an agreement with Nigerian former Nigerian national team player and coach Daniel Amokachi. He will take over from Pekka Haaranen who will continue as assistant coach. Amokachi's agreement with Hercules is one year."
Hercules was formed in 1998 and was recently promoted to the Finnish second tier.
A former FA Cup winner, Amokachi played in Europe for a number of clubs and is a role model for young footballers in Africa. He scored the first goal in the Champions League new format in Club Brugge 1-0 win against CSKA Moscow, in 1992.
Amokachi represented Nigeria at two World Cups. In addition, he won the Olympic gold medal in Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996, while putting on the Nigerian national team shirt.
After his playing career, Amokachi was trained as a coach in the Netherlands. He has coached several teams in Nigeria and also served as a coach in the Nigerian national team between 2008 to 2015.
